You must release the tension on the garage door springs before attempting adjustment or replacement.
Adjusting roller door tension.
This is how to loosen or tighten the tension on a roll up door.
As part of maintaining your garage roller door it is important that the roller door is tensioned properly.
Open the door to release the tension on the springs.
As the framing inside the door opening settles the tracks raise or lower with the floor.
Hold the door in place.
Adjusting the rollers on your pella sliding doors raises or lowers the door panel as necessary to get the door working smoothly.
This is accomplished by opening the garage door as fully as possible until it hits the stop bolt on the track.
To adjust your garage door s side mounted springs first open your door fully and secure it in place with a c clamp below the bottom roller.
Close the garage door and disconnect your garage door opener.
Open the garage door fully.
Once your garage door is secured remove the spring hook from the track hanger which will allow you to move the hook and adjust the spring s tension.
Unplug the opener and pull the emergency release cord up and down to disconnect the door from the opener.
Adjust the springs on both sides of the door the same way.
Hold the garage door in this position by attaching a c clamp to the track at a point below the lowest door roller wheel.
If the door was closing too quickly move the spring to the next higher hole on the bracket.
This is how to loosen or tighten the tension on a roll up door.
These springs will generally maintain a high level of tension.
Clamp the garage door in place with a c clamp above the bottom roller.
Once the spring is free of tension remove from its track hanger.
If it was opening too quickly move it to the next lower hole.
Use locking pliers or a c clamp under the bottom rollers to prevent the door from rolling down.
Retest the door balance as you did in step 1.
Adjusting your garage door.
When adjusting the rollers you will need to adjust each side of the panel.
